Approaching the prevention of psychosocial injury from a risk perspective can mean that there is a plan in place well before the pressure comes on or intense periods occur.  For example, many of us know that Christmas is a time of fatigue for people, yet in many industries business ramps up before it closes down.

Why then don’t we resource accordingly or stagger leave so that people are not driving to the end of the year in a fatigued state?

The following risk assessment aligns directly with the Six Hazards and Contributing Factors that were identified by the Wellness in Infrastructure Steering Committee following the publication of the 2018 Downey-Swinburne report.

This speaks directly to what white collar industry professionals identified as areas that created the greatest risks for negative impacts on mental health. This Industry Mental Health and Wellness Risk Assessment can be used as a guide to consider the necessary controls to address each of the Six Hazards and Contributing Factors.

This is a comprehensive list that outlines what is required to create an integrated approach to the prevention of mental health injury and to promote sustainable wellness.  It has been industry generated and whilst construction focused would be of value for any organisation.
